St. Matthew isn't afraid of tough subjects. When the George Floyd story dominated the news, as well as other tragic and violent deaths of blacks becoming more frequent, I wanted to do something, but felt helpless. And especially as a white person, I also felt some sense of guilt and shame. But how to respond? Then Meg Kraft, Bill Parchen, and our pastors offered to lead a study on White Privilege. This five-part series challenged my assumptions and opened my eyes. I am suddenly much more aware of the plight of blacks in America, and intend to be a voice for change when that is possible.
